2014 mazda mazda6 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Even the manufacturing process was retooled at mazda's assembly plant in hiroshima, japan for faster, more flexible production.  the mazda6 uses mazda's skyactive technology, a collection of systems and techniques first employed on the cx-5 crossover that reduce weight and increase efficiency. At the heart of it lies a 2. 5-liter inline-4 that makes 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque (mazda said sayonara to the old v6). A new injection system and race-style exhaust manifold help the new mazda6 achieve more torque and power than the previous engines, while reducing emissions.  the standard transmission on the base model is a 6-speed manual, which now comes standard with a hill-hold feature. It's a hybrid of a traditional torque converter, which kicks in at speeds of less than 5 mph, providing the driver with the familiar creep of automatic transmissions, and a dual-clutch that operates at higher speeds, providing quicker, more seamless shifts. Like most cars in this class, mazda6 is front-wheel drive.  other elements of skyactive include a lighter, more efficient frame, which engineers tweaked using straighter lines and different welds. High-tensile steel comprises 58 percent of the mazda6's body weight, which is a relatively lean 3,183 pounds on the base model with the manual transmission. That's a few pounds lighter than the honda accord, and nearly 300 pounds lighter than the ford fusion. Other changes include fully electric steering and a revised suspension, which result in a more dialed-in feel, with less road shock and more stability under braking.  the new package results in a significant improvement in fuel economy over the outgoing model. Strangely, though, bluetooth does not appear on the base sport trim with the manual transmission; this requires a step up to the automatic. All come with the same 2. 5-liter engine; all but sport come standard with the 6-speed automatic.  mazda6 sport 20,880) comes standard with the 6-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, fabric upholstery, six-way manually adjustable driver's seat, leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel, steering-wheel mounted controls, power door locks/windows/mirrors, remote keyless entry, pushbutton start, cruise control, trip computer, 6-speaker audio system with cd player, auxiliary jack, usb port, 60/40 split folding rear seat, usb port, 17-inch alloy wheels. Wheels are 19-inch alloys. Led daytime running lamps, adaptive front-lighting system, an alarm system, a rear lip spoiler and unique paint on the alloy wheels.  safety features on all models include two-stage front-impact airbags, front side-impact airbags, front and rear side air curtains, antilock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and brake assist, dynamic stability control (dsc), traction control, tire-pressure monitor, latch child safety seat anchors and hill hold assist. Optional safety features include a rearview camera that can help the driver spot a small child behind the vehicle when backing up. walkaroundthis is the best-looking mazda6 yet. It follows mazda's current kodo design language, which aims to convey a more athletic, dynamic look. With many design cues coming straight from the radical-looking shinari concept car that was unveiled a few years ago, mazda design director derek jenkins and his team were able to create a midsize sedan that stands out from the crowd, with looks that are neither blase, nor overdone like some of the car's competitors.  the front end gets a more grown-up face featuring a curving, trapezoidal grille with stretched horizontal lines that make it appear wide, not tall like the big-mouthed mazda3. Wraparound headlamps and led foglamps with flared, geometric housings add athletic touches.  from the side, the prominent nose looks almost shark-like. The deep flowing creases over the front fender continue into the front doors, in a cue taken straight from the shinari concept. The a-pillars are pushed farther back on the new mazda6, which not only biases the proportions rearward, but it also aids with visibility while driving. Bright trim is used sparingly and tastefully around windows. Wraparound taillamps mimic the horizontal shapes of the front end, and here, too, bright work is used to highlight but not overwhelm. Twin exhaust pipes that sit beneath the lower plastic bumper cover are subtly sporty. interiorin true mazda style, the cockpit of the mazda6 is centered around the driver. The steering wheel is smaller than before, and buttons and knobs on the center stack are within easy reach of the driver (even though many functions are duplicated on the steering wheel).  materials inside are a mixed bag; the soft-touch dash and instrument panel are of good quality, but the plastic around doors, including window switches, have a generic parts-bin look. Still, there were no glaring fit or finish issues, and we daresay everything inside is on par with other cars in the class.  in front of the driver is a trio of gauges that are simple and easy to read; speedometer, tach and driver information display. The center instrument panel is equally clean. Knobs for the climate control sit three abreast. Beneath is a small cubby for a phone or keys. While the screen is clear and easy to read, we found using some navigation functions annoying and non-intuitive, such as setting, changing or canceling a destination. We didn't find the leather particularly supple and prefer the. Climate Control✔ Power Locks✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Player✔ Bluetooth✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

2005 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New models expand superb new lineup. introductionford f-150 has been the best-selling full-size pickup for 27 consecutive years, and it's the most important, most profitable vehicle ford makes. Last year ford threw away the old formula and created a new f-150 from the ground up. At the top is a new king ranch model lavishly outfitted in castano leather. At the bottom is a new v6 model available with an automatic or manual transmission. An inexpensive work truck model has been added as well. In between is the industry's widest variety of body configurations: three cab styles, three bed lengths, two bed styles, and a choice of v8 engines. The f-150 comes equipped with dual frontal airbags designed to deploy according to the severity of the crash and who or what is occupying the seat. The xl, stx, xlt, fx4, lariat, and king ranch each boast their own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia and 17-inch steel wheels, though it comes with chrome bumpers. Xl is available in regular cab or supercab (extended cab) styles. An f-150 xl 4. 2-liter v8 regular cab 2wd automatic short wheelbase retails for $21,455, but a v6 manual will lower that price to $19,610; a long-wheelbase 4x4 v8 automatic supercab is priced at $29,690. (manufacturer's suggested retail prices are subject to change and do not include the destination charge of $795.)  stx is sportier than the xl, with a body-colored grille-surround for the black bar grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Stx comes in styleside (flat) and flareside (fendered) body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional. Stx starts at $22,285.  xlt is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl though not as luxurious as lariat. It comes with a honeycomb grille that sets it apart from the other models. Xlt comes in regular cab, supercab or supercrew, with a choice of 5. 5-, 6. 5-, or 8-foot bed lengths, and styleside or flareside body styles. A premium cloth interior is standard on the bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash. Supercab, as well as supercrew versions, get power windows for the rear doors. The xlt also features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4x4 xlts. An xlt supercrew 4x4 5. 4-liter v8 automatic retails for $35,275.  fx4 is a special off-road model. The interior features chrome trim and markings, and a floor shifter. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, with either 5. 5-foot styleside or 6. 5-foot flareside or styleside bed designs (no 8-foot bed). The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package as do the rest of the models, with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional, and 18-inch cast aluminum wheels are standard. An f-150 fx4 supercrew retails for $34,605.  lariat is the luxury model. It has its own grille design and comes standard with 18-inch wheels. Lariat features black-on-cream instruments, lots of wood trim and brushed metal, a multi-function steering wheel, and a shiny floor shifter mounted in a floor console. A power 40/20/40 split bench seat with seat memory is standard, along with power-adjustable floor pedals, an in-dash message center, and climate control. Heated power leather captain's chairs are optional. Lariat 2wd models are available in all three body styles, but 4x4 versions are only available with styleside fenders. An f-150 lariat supercrew 4x4 starts at $35,875.  king ranch features rich castano leather designed to capture the spirit of the historic texas cattle ranch. It comes as a supercrew distinguished by with a color-coordinated grille, arizona beige running boards, and other special trim. Inside are power-adjustable and heated captain's chairs in front, a 60/40 split bench seat in back, and unique interior tri. walkaroundredesigned for 2004, the ford f-150 looks much more manly than the previous-generation models. Its tall shoulders, bold front end and crisp lines give it a more utilitarian look that leaves no doubt that this is a serious truck. It's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram, but is totally different. In fact, the f-150 has a unique look, no small feat when designing within the hard parameters imposed by a pickup. In short, we think the new f-150 is a great-looking truck.  the f-150 has picked up styling cues from the handsome super duty pickups, including the sharp cut in the forward part of the door, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure. The roofline is somewhat reminiscent of chopped-top custom street trucks.  the whole nose is shaped more squarely than the previous generation, which featured more feminine, more car-like curves. The grilles are larger and bolder. The front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks more slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through the tailgate, giving the f-150 an upscale, utilitarian look that's very appealing.  the different trim levels are quite distinctive. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, brushed-nickel on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch use a bar-style grille.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is two inches taller than previous-generation's beds to give more margin when hauling larger cargoes. The supercab (extended cab) doors are larger than the vestigial doors on the standard cab. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which evokes images of montana and cowboys. Lariat comes with every known amenity.  we found the xlt's front bench seats attractive, but they were flat and lacked support. The front bench is split three ways. They also looked great, trimmed in black leather with light gray stitching. Adjusting the power seats may be a little awkward for drivers with big arms because the clearance between the door armrest and the seat is a little tight; rake adjustment on the power driver's seat is manual, and raking it forward can be a bit awkward. The center console between the captain's chairs is deep and holds a lot of stuff and features a pair of big, solid cup holders. The floor shifter for the automatic works very well.  the radio and hvac controls are plain but straightforward and easy to operate. Giant mirrors afford an excellent view rearward. We'll take one in atomic orange, please. introductionaccolades heaped on the chevrolet corvette are well earned. Even a short test drive is convincing.  driving a corvette should be an emotional experience, and the standard coupe and convertible deliver in spades. The 400-horspower ls2 v8 rumbles wonderfully, and the vette intoxicates with its acceleration. With either the manual or automatic transmission, the coupe thrills. And the convertible is plain wonderful. Chevrolet has eliminated nearly all the cruder, less desirable traits that characterized corvettes of yore, and its performance does not exact a painful toll on driver or passenger. Driven sanely, it can deliver pretty good mileage, too, up to 28 mpg highway by the epa's formula, better than most suvs.  now in its third year of production, the current corvette is known to sports car enthusiasts as the c6 (for sixth generation). What makes it better than the previous generation is everything: performance, refinement, ease of operation. It's more comfortable and easier to drive, not only on the road, but also on a race track. It quickly infuses a driver with confidence. Its brakes are fantastic and, yes, it's faster. And to its credit, chevrolet has not rested on its laurels with the vette.  a year after launch, chevrolet introduced a six-speed automatic transmission, which works great and lives up to the advanced technology in the rest of the car.  even more significant was the introduction of the latest-generation, ultra-high-performance z06 model. The corvette z06 is a true supercar for a price that's merely expensive, as opposed to insanely expensive. The z06 gets the 505-hp ls7 v8, high-tech, weight trimming chassis features and upgraded brakes. If any $66,000 car can be called a bargain, this is the one, at least in terms of raw performance. The corvette z06 accelerates faster, grips better and stops shorter than european sports cars that cost twice as much. And we find it much easier to drive than a viper.  for 2007, the corvette gets a bigger glove box, redundant steering-wheel controls for the high-end bose stereo, and onstar tele-aid service for the z06 model.  bottom line: in either standard or z06 trim, the 2007 chevrolet corvette remains the best high-performance value in america. Corvette delivers supercar performance for the price of a midsize luxury sedan, and it's easy to live with. lineupthe standard 2007 chevrolet corvette is available as a coupe or convertible, with more than enough horsepower and either a manual or automatic transmission. The crazy powerful z06 model is available only as a fixed-roof coupe.  the corvette coupe 44,170) and convertible 52,085) are powered by a 6. 0-liter v8 generating 400 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard. The optional six-speed paddle shift automatic 1,250) can be shifted manually with levers on the steering column.  the corvette coupe features a one-piece removable roof panel in body color (standard) or transparent plastic 750). The dual-roof option 1,400) includes both. The convertible comes standard with a manually operated soft top; the power top is part of the 3lt option package 5,540) and has a heated glass window in back.  standard features for the corvette coupe include leather seating surfaces, dual-zone automatic climate control with a pollen filter, power everything (including seats), cruise control and hid headlights. The convertible adds sport seats with adjustable lumbar support and side bolsters. The sport seats are included with preferred package 2lt 1,495) for the coupe, which also adds side airbags, a rear cargo net and luggage shade.  two suspension options are offered for both the coupe and convertible. In addition to the power top for the convertible, it includes a head-up display, heated seats with position memory, a premium bose stereo with cd changer and xm satellite radio hardware (and for 2007, redundant steering wheel controls), a power telescoping steering column and rearview mirror with compass. The list of free-standing options is short: dvd navigation 1,750), which includes the bose audio; onstar telematics 695); chromed aluminum wheels 1850); polished aluminum wheels 1,250) or dark gray painted wheels 395).  the corvette z06 coupe 65,640) is considerably more expensive than the standard models and raises performance to another plane. The heart of the z06 is a 7. 0-liter v8 producing 505 horsepower, with racecar features such as dry-sump lubrication and coolers for the power steering pump, gearbox and rear differential. Beyond the engine, the z06 package includes a host of high-performance components, starting with hydro-formed aluminum frame rails (rather than the steel rails used in the standard corvette). Its hardtop is fixed in place. Its brakes are upgraded, its tires are huge and it's offered only with the six-speed manual transmission.  safety features that come standard on all models include dual-stage front airbags, abs, traction control and electronic stability control. We recommend the optional side airbags, but there's a rub. The side bags are included in the option packages, but not priced individually. But beyond this exotic color option, the 2007 chevrolet corvettes look essentially the same as the 2006s, and that's not bad at all.  by appearance, the sixth-generation corvette is less overtly aggressive, perhaps more sophisticated, than its predecessors. From some angles it's almost pretty, and it shows a bit of italian flair.  its headlights are an obvious distinction. From the early 1960s, corvettes used hideaway headlamps to complement their sleek designs, but advances in optics and lighting technology have enabled designers to achieve those goals with exposed headlights. They are lighter, which means less weight hanging out over the front wheels. The exposed lights eliminate the mechanical complexity of hideaways, and they light up the road better than the previous design.  the c6 body work is smoother aerodynamically and generates less lift in front than the c5, which results in better grip and increased stability at high speeds. The sculpted fenders, sharp creases that sweep dramatically up to the planed rear deck and other aspects of the design call to mind race cars as well as jet fighters. The narrower rear end is the biggest improvement from a styling standpoint, offering more pleasing proportions. On the functional side, the optics of the reverse lights magnify the light they throw out to help when backing up in this beast. To trim weight from the front of the corvette, the transmission is mounted behind the seats and connected to the differential, rather than being attached directly behind the engine.  in the z06, this quest for front-rear balance extends to the weight of the battery, which is located in the rear cargo area.  the z06 is distinguished from other corvettes by lots of subtle appearance tweaks, starting with the roof. It's fixed rather than removable, adding an extra element of structural stiffness for track driving. Its fenders are wider front and rear to cover massively wide tires and rims (the rear wheels are fully 12 inches wide or two inches wider than those on the standard vette). There are also several z06 body and chassis changes that aren't apparent to the eye. The frame is made entirely of hydro-formed aluminum (the standard vettes have steel rails), with a magnesium engine cradle, and its fenders are formed from ultra-light carbon fiber. As a result, and despite a much heavier engine and drivetrain, the z06 weighs 50 pounds less than a standard corvette coupe. interiorthe cockpit in this sixth-generation car is much improved over past corvettes. Unlike the previous generation, the c6 corvette doesn't look like an upgraded camaro inside, and the two-tone leather treatment no longer makes us feel that a black leather jacket is required attire.  the cabin features premium soft surfaces, nice grain in the materials and elegant tailoring. The dashboard is finished in a soft material that feels rich to the touch. Real metal accents are used, but they don't generate glare. The electronics displays serve the driver without getting in the way.  the steering wheel is relatively small, measuring just 9. 4 inches in diameter, and it addresses one of the biggest gripes we had with the old c5 corvette. This wheel looks less like something that belongs in a suburban and more like one th. Heated Seats✔ Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ CD Changer✔ Aluminum Wheels
